Music!!

Hi guys! Welcome back to my blog again!! So, me and my partner have been trying to think and brainstorm some new ideas for our film and try to make this process as exciting and fun as we can, and we had a new idea. I've been thinking about the music for this film for awhile now and we thought the song "Bags" by Clairo would be excellent for the opening!

Once we had decided on what song we wanted to use, we ran into our first problem.. the song is a copyrighted song made by the private owner, so if we wanted to use this specific song for our film we would have to find a way to get permission for it. Clairo is in the genre of alternative indie and some people call it 'bedroom pop' this type of music is generally pretty mellow and the target audience for this specific genre is teen girls; especially since the artist who sings this song is young as well. This genre of music would work perfectly with our film because, as researched before, the larger target audience for coming of age films is also teen girls. It's important that these two genres work side by side with each other because not only does this music choice enhance the film, but it also may peak the interests of an audience to want to watch it since it would be a song they may be familiar with, that also works well with the picture of the film.

So once my partner and I knew we had to gain permission in order to use this song we went on a hunt to find the email of Clairo or her management team. We went through many websites on the internet, until ultimately finding the email of her manager. We wrote to her and explained what big fans we were of Clairo and her music, and how grateful we would be if she would let us use her music; we also explained that we were using it for something related to school and education, and in no way we would be making any money off of the film using her music. We waited in anticipation for a response back, until finally we did receive that email saying that we would be allowed to use the song!

This blew me and my partner both away! We were so excited to just receive the email back, and that she agreed to let us use her song was the best news to receive. I am so excited to continue this project, especially now that we have permission to use a song that we really wanted to include!!

This is the email my partner received after emailing for permission to use the song!!
